Athron “Inflammation of Joints” – Arthritis
The word ‘arthritis’ means ‘inflammation of joints’.
It comes from two Greek words, athron meaning joints and its meaning inflammation.
It is a chronic disease process.
In the early stages, the whole body is usually involved and one or two joints may become completely deformed, leaving the person handicapped and somewhat weakened.
Arthritis assumes various forms, the most frequent being osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The main cause of arthritis is an inflammation, a reaction of joint tissues with some form of damage or injury.
Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease which usually occurs in the older age-group. It results from structural changes in articular cartilage in joints, usually those which are weight-bearing such as spine & knees.
The chief symptoms of osteoarthritis are pain & stiffness in the joints. The pain usually increases after exercise. Other symptoms include watery eyes, dry neck, leg cramps, allergies, arteriosclerosis, impairment in the functioning of gall-bladder & liver disturbances. The possible causes include malnutrition, continuous physical stress, obesity, glandular insufficiency, calcium deficiency & shortage of hydrochloric acid.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Often called “Cooked Food Disease”.
This is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to mistakenly attack membranes that line your joints.
It develops gradually over several months with persistent pain and stiffness in one or more joints & start affecting joint of fingers, wrists, hips, knees, feets, muscles, tendons and other tissues of the body.
It develops due to an inflammatory process of the synovium or lining of joints accompanied by swelling & eventual deformity.
Its symptom include Anaemia, Colitis, Constipation, Gall-Bladder Disturbances, Low Blood Pressure, Deformed Hands & Feet.
It may caused by hormonal imbalance like Physical or Emotional Stress, Infection, Severe Fright, Shock & Injury.
Your diet must consist of fresh raw vegetables like Cabbage, Carrot, Celery, Cucumber, Endive, Lettuce, Onion, Radishes, Tomatoes, Watercress etc. in the form of a salad & vegetables like Asparagus, Beets, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Mushroom, Peas, Beans, Spinach, squash and turnips etc. as cooked vegetables.
In severe cases, it will be advisable to put the person on raw vegetables juice therapy for about a week. Green juice, extracted from any green leafy vegetable, mixed with carrot, celery and red beet juice, is specific for arthritis. The alkaline action of raw juices dissolves accumulation of deposits around the joints and in other tissues. It will be beneficial if you follow juice fasts at the intervals of every two months
Fresh pineapple is also valuable as the enzyme (bromelain) in fresh pineapple juice reduces swelling and inflammation in osteoarthritis & rheumatoid arthritis.
In addition, raw potato juice is also an effective biological treatment in rheumatic and arthritic condition.
That is why from centuries it has been used as folk medicine.
To prepare raw potato juice you need to cut potato (average size) into thin slices, without peeling the skin & put it in a large glass (min. 250 ml.) filled with cold water & keep for overnight, or you can extract juice from potato & mix it with water in a ratio of 50:50 basis.
As a result you must take juices & soaked seeds first in the morning on an empty stomach.
First of all start drinking water kept in a copper container, as water mixed with traces of copper helps to strengthen the muscular system.
So make a habit to drink water kept overnight in a copper container. You may either wear copper ring or copper bracelet.
Other home remedies useful in relieving joints pain includes green-gram soup mixed with crushed garlic cloves, powdered fenugreek seeds, Take a teaspoonful of powdered fenugreek seeds mixed with warm water & green-gram soup everyday.
The primary cause of arthritis is uric acid & solvant of uric acid is citric acid found in lime.
To get relieve from arthritis pain you must also try the following remedies described below:
Camphorated oil, known ancient rubefacient for pain relieve. Take warm coconut or mustard oil, mix it with camphor, apply over stiff / aching joints & massage it gently.
It will increase blood supply, reduce inflammation, stiffness on account of gentle warmth produced while massaging.
Consequently sea bathing is also beneficial for arthritis because sea water have natural iodine which helps to relieve arthritis pain.
Iodine regulates the acid-alkaline balance in blood & tissues which helps to repair & regenerate worn out tissues & nourishes the body skeletal structure.
It enters into the thyroid gland’s secretion. The hormone uses this iodine to nullify germs in the bloodstream and to create a self- cleansing of internal toxemia.
Alternatively you can take sea salt bath at your home if sea bathing is not possible, you just need to mix cupful of sea salt in tub filled with warm water & relax for 30 minutes every night.
The minerals in the sea salt, especially iodine absorbed through the skin pores & helps to correct an internal imbalance.
Most noteworthy, important is to keep your body always warm at all times. you must not bandaged joints too tightly as this will limits movement & interfere with free circulation of blood.
There should be plenty of indirect ventilation in the bedroom. Rest is of greatest importance to arthritis, you should not overdo your work, exercise or recreation activities.
Constipation should be avoided as it poisons the system and adds to the irritation and inflammation of the joints. As a result you must do light exercises such as walking, hiking & swimming.
In addition you should take a lukewarm enema for a few days to cleanse the bowels.
The yogic asanas helpful in curing arthritis are Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, Naukasana, Vakrasana and Savasana.
Arthritis persons should practice these asanas regularly.
Yogic kriyas like Jalneti & Kapalbhati and Pranayamas such as Anuloma Viloma, Ujjayi & Bhramari are also beneficial.
